iPad: So what’s the big deal?
Apple announced the iPad on January 27, 2010. They claim that it will be a game changer. Steve Jobs complained about how terrible netbooks were and that there has to be a better way.
I don’t think the iPad is a huge deal – FOR NOW. The iPhone revolutionized the mobile phone forever, but what does the iPad do that you can’t do on a regular computer? Not a lot – FOR NOW.
In the future, I believe that the iPad will be a success and something that I will want to use. In what why, I’m not quite sure, but I do know that if there is something that can be done in a unique way, then this device may be the answer.
Am I anti-iPad? No, but right now, given its capabilities, I don’t see where it would fit into MY lifestyle. I might like one for the coffee table or for taking on road or plane trips, but I don’t travel all that often. My current mobile experiences have me using rather processor-hungry applications such as Garageband and Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop. FOR NOW the iPad won’t run these apps, but I’m willing to bet if the technology takes off many computer applications will be ported to the device. I just hope that they are as useful as their big brother (Mac) counterparts.
