Note Identification Drills

This month I started a new class of 3rd-5th graders at the KSU String Project. Students will soon be learning to identify note names.  Initially, I separate the music reading from the music production tasks.

MusicTheory.net is a great website for learning LOTS of music theory concepts.  One of my favorite parts of the site is the ability to customize exercises for student practice at home. There is lots of learning to take place outside the classroom!

For my string classroom, I’ve created four levels of difficulty:

Introduction (D string notes only)

Violin | Viola | Cello & Double Bass

Bronze Level (Notes in the D major scale)

Violin | Viola | Cello & Double Bass

Silver Level (Notes in the D major scale plus G string notes)

Violin | Viola | Cello | Double Bass (D major scale plus A string notes)

Gold Level (Notes on all four strings)

Violin | Viola | Cello | Double Bass
