Bow Warm-Ups 2.0
It has been 11 years since I recorded the first bow warm-ups video in my fifth-grade class in Hilliard, Ohio. That video was filmed spontaneously on an older low-resolution cell phone in class by a student volunteer. The backing tracks were played live on a little Bose SoundDock Portable speaker.
Never did I think that the video I made for my elementary class of about 15 students would receive tens of thousands of views! Over the years at conferences all over the country, people would stop me and say “Hey, you’re the bow warm-up guy!“ It’s kind of funny.
The idea of putting fun background music to a bow warm-up was something I had been doing for quite a long time and I have always found it to be motivational for my students. With added music, students actually want to practice those “boring” exercises. The best part is that they keep asking to do the exercises, even after they become good at using the bow on the instrument.
After realizing how much better I could make the bow warm-ups, I decided to re-create them, so here are your brand new bow warm-ups 2.0 in high definition. There are more exercises, updated (non-copyrighted) music, and lots of fun! This time I used my green screen to add some fun backgrounds as well.
I hope your students will benefit from this and have as much fun doing the exercises as I did making the video. If you and your students enjoy them, please feel free to share and subscribe to The Orchestra Teacher YouTube Channel!
Awesome ‘Bow Hold’ video. I have included it on my classes resource page in Canvas.
Thank you!
